5 comentários catarinas sobre o país da copa (Suíça) / 5 tchozinus comments about the Would Cup country (Switzerland)

Tchozinhos e tchozinhas,  / Ladies and Gentlemen

When I had the opportunity to invest my time in Switzerland, what I wanted from that experience was to simply expose my cortex to what goes beyond the widely known stuff like knives, cheeses, chocolates, watches and Swiss banks. I wanted very much to grasp the swiss culture in its core. I wanted to see how is the confusion and the struggles between lingual, political, and cultural ties within the country. I wanted to better understand how this country raise and maintain so its wealth in contrast to a not so distant past, which looking back just 100 years ago the poverty expelled people to Brazil for instance. As a result, I can say that this tiny little country is fantastic and below I explain why.

01 – É um país diverso / It is a country of diversity

Switzerland is a tiny country that geographically looks like a mite (yes, that ones in you sofa). Its is located at the heart of Europe, dividing the warm south and the cold north. In there, they integrate and congregate (bring togheter) 3 large universes of knowledge (German, French and Italian). It is a country, in the same way as Holland, that has always attracted and sheltered many thinkers who were not accepted and even threatened in their home lands for posing serious threats to the common thought. The world cup country is beautiful with moutains, lakes, valleys, forests, green fields, cows, snow and you can jump virtually in any part where you see water, even in rivers located in the middle of the cities. From a Brazilian point of view, it is crazy.

Friburgo suíça

Friburgo em francês: Fribourg; em alemão: Freiburg- Lugar onde a língua francesa e a alemã colidem… / Fribourg the capital of the Swiss canton of Fribourg and the district of Sarine the place where the French and German languages colide…

02 – É um país chique e seguro / It is a fancy and safe country

Was going through a train station and there were some beggars, no one could actually call them beggars because they dressed up well. When they asked for something and I did not answer, they promply switch the language, because maybe I would not understand French or German. To get a job as a beggar in Switzerland you have to have good qualification and language skills, if not the market will not absorb you. Moreover, once asked where was a certain place a guy responded and when I asked if the place was safe he laughed at my face and I knew I could relax it is safe.

03 – País educado,  gentil e com tradições / A polite, kind country with traditions

When we went hiking in the mountains, all the people who passed by us greeted us with a traditional “Grüezi ” In the streets too, please, good morning, and thank you were frequent mandatory words. In the French speaking part was the “Salut , ça va ?” Every morning we were awake in our dormitory with the song “NON, JE NE Regrette Rien ‘ translating means” No, I do not regret anything” for me one of the most beautiful French music ever and also something that impressed me as much as they way they treated us. Among many traditions that I was introduced to. I recall of hot tea with chocolate bars in our pick-nicks.

04 – País da copa do mundo / The world cup country

The Swiss host offices of the main coorporations in the world, which are very welcomed and protected by an independent laws not connected to the european legislation. The best people in the world are attracted to there to develop strategies, scenarios and action plans in order to coordinate many global projects which FIFA is just one of them. It would be difficult to make myself critical for a system that works as well or at least seems to. For me, this is the real world Cup country, because it is where all the things actually happen, the Brazilian event is just the place where circus settles and after a month the pads lower and the caravan follows its course.

05 – É um país justo até / It’s a country fair even

This is a very debated and controversial issue, especially regarding the world wars. I will not get to it. My point is that if the guys have invested a lot in education, have a large network of contacts, use the opportunities and adversities to evolve, it is certainly fair to have and maintain their wealth. It is fair to generate wealth by understanding the importance of traditions, passions, symbols and brands. Look, is isn’t genius what they did? taking a Britsh sport like football and created global events in which the more it is discussed the more the brand grows? This is not their fault (Swiss fault) if we (Brazilians) do not invest in our people, our brands and in our traditions, we do not create value out of our things and just blindly accept what they offer us. It’s not their fault if we did not manage to disassociate our daily activities to completely irrelevant fact of an almost useless sport. Although there is a lot of people struggling to create things of real value in Brazil, our government sends the money to Cuba. It is our fault. We are so weak in opinion makers in Brazil as we are in infrastructure, roads, schools and hospitals, even our vocabulary is changed to express our feelings in a weak way using football expressions all the time. It is horrendous!

All in all, It would not be fair that Brazil would develop to this point if it never invested in itself. If Brazil proceed without strong and resilient basic education it would be a miracle that fact occur. For this and others, Brazil needs to study other cultures and invest in itself to try to evolve and diminish their mental dependence of the world cup country and several others. You can never take away hope from someone or a people without putting another in its place, which would you put in place of football? The Brazil is walking pretty confused those days, but it is still firmly focused on irrelevant things until other forms of slavery are created. Greetings from Brazil
